Homework for the Year

Now that we have established a classroom routine, here is our homework routine:
It is essential that the BLUE Reading Pocket comes back to school each day.  Your child will be unable to log steps at school if it does not.  Make this is your child's responsibility to make sure it is placed back in the backpack each night, assist a little but let them be the leader.
*Remember, 'The object of teaching a child is to enable the child to do without the teacher."  You are building the routines for homework/responsibility for the rest of their years of schooling right now.  :)

So you will find this book pocket in your child's backpack each evening.

Inside this book pocket you will find 3 books and a reading log.
Let them read these to an adult or older sibling for 10 minutes.
Then let them read them again for 10 minutes really practicing the power goal- you will find the goal in the little notebook (seen below).  Then another 10 minutes parents can read to them from books they already have, library books or the books in their bag.    After you finish your child will write the title of 2 books and you will sign it.  You can see an example below.
This is a closer snapshot of the log.  There is a letter on the first page inside to help you.
After you finish reading homework each night you will have your child write 2 titles and then sign to the right.

In addition you will find this book that contains what I want your child to really work on as they read.
On the left hand side of the power goal book a skills card will be stapled.  This card shows the progression of skills your child will needs to become a good reader.
